Interview with Djoeke: ‘The students are really nice!’
We have spoken to Djoeke van der Zandt, one of the new teachers at Hageveld. A lot of students talk positively about her classes. She's nice and lets her students do homework during class, which a lot of people are happy about.
Before Djoeke came to Hageveld, she worked at Masterskip. Masterskip is a program that lets teens combine school with sailing. They sail on the ocean for about 5 to 7 weeks while doing schoolwork and learn sailing. They end their travel by sailing by themselves. Later this school year, Djoeke will leave on a trip with masterskip!
We asked her what her first impression was of Hageveld. She told us: ‘The students are really nice! My colleagues are kind as well. There’s a lot of communication between the teachers’. She also told us about that she really likes the building of the school. It’s old and looks amazing according to her. It has a classy vibe. The fact that the building was a convent and a monk school formerly, makes it something really beautiful.
When asked what surprised her when she started working at this school, she said that there’s a lot of activities. Classes are visiting museums, go sporting together and are doing things to donate to charities. She finds this interesting. 'Another thing that surprised me was that teachers actually give notes to students'. While it feels normal for most of us to take notes, it seems like it was something unusual for Djoeke.
She enjoys working at this school and hopes to continue for a few years.
